SLASH
PROJECT: Typeface Design
DATE: 2022
Often in opening sequences of crime shows you would see a freehand calligraphy text or an image cropped as a typeface. Instead of using these lettering techniques, I was inspired to create a typeface that can capture the essence of crime shows.
This typeface infuses forms from the Trajan Roman typeface with visual motifs that often appear in crime shows. The drastic contrast, the angular forms, and the sharp serifs all capture the mood of crime shows. It adds to the tension, conveying a dangerous, suspenseful vibe. It’s a typeface that reinterprets the visual identity of crime shows, making it distinctive from the typical bold typefaces that commonly appear in crime shows.
Designed as a display typeface, Slash is best used for headlines as well as large text displays.
